Hearts go joint-top with rivals Kotoko

Accra Hearts of Oak are on level points with traditional rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko after a vital 0-1 away win at Bechem.

The Phobians are returning home with all the spoils after Thomas Abbey’s effort grabbed the only goal of the game against Bechem United to intensify the chase on the Porcupine Warriors, who have been at the apex of the log with 12 points ahead of their game on Sunday.

The Accra giants are now joint-top with the defending league champions after amassing 12 points from a possible 15 on Matchday-5 and have only lost a game in the 2013-14 season of the Ghana Premier League.

Abbey gave the 20-time Ghana Premier League winners an early lead after three minutes when his cross deflected off a Bechem United guardsman to beat the last line of defence of their opponents.

Coach David Duncan’s side has managed to thwart the unbeaten run of the top-flight returnees who upset Aduana Stars in a 2-1 mid-week victory.

Asante Kotoko are traveling to Tema to face off with new entrants Inter Allies on Sunday, but today’s victory for Hearts intensifies the pressure on them at the summit of the league.
