Controversial sports presenter, Patrick Osei Agyemang popularly known as Country Man Songo says it is within Asamoah Gyan’s right to authenticate the paternity of his children.

GhanaWeb broke the news last week that the Black Stars captain is in court seeking to annul his marriage with Gifty Gyan and has also requested DNA test to find out if he is the true father of his three kids.

Songo who has been a constant critic of the Karyerispor forward sees no wrong with him making the request but warned he will be forced to ‘fire him’ if his marital problems affect his performance for the Black Stars.

Songo in an interview with GhanaWeb editor Daniel Oduro held that Gyan is already battling injuries and old age and can’t afford to allow his marital problems to affect his output on the field. He called on Gyan to admit that he has passed his prime and hang his boots as he currently struggles to get regular football at club level.

“I don’t talk about people’s personal problems as in personal lives. I don’t really love that. If you can go back you’ll realized that I have never discussed his (Gyan) personal stuff before. I only talk about him when he comes to play for the nation. He’s a man if he believes that he is doubting certain things, he can go ahead and ask for DNA. I mean its not bad. He knows the person he’s staying with and he know what he is going through. He knows the issues between him and the wife”.

“My problem is that it should not trigger to the national team because he is the captain. When he is disturbed he can’t perform. Already the man is ageing, he is out of form and injuries are worrying him so should this add up then how can lead our national team. That is where my worry comes in. He should be able to handle his house problems so that it doesn’t affect the national team. I believe that it is about time he leaves the national team and give support in the form of advice to the young ones”.

But the Black Stars forward has shown mental fortitude in the midst of his troubles, scoring he first goal for Kayserispor a day after the news broke.

He is expected to lead the line for the Black Stars when they engage Ethiopia in a 2019 AFCON qualifier.
