Gyan makes 29-man provisional team for AFCON 2019

Coach James Kwasi Appiah has included striker Asamoah Gyan in the 29-man provisional squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation scheduled for Egypt, next month.

Gyan, on Monday, May 22, announced his retirement from the team, after disagreement over his role as the captain of the team.

The 29-member team consist of three goalkeepers, ten defenders, eleven midfielders and five strikers.

Three local players form Asante Kotoko and Accra Herat's of Oak have been called into the team.

Four debutants including Mohammed Alhassan, Samuel Owusu, Abdul Fatawu and Kwabena Owusu all made the provisional team.

The team will depart Accra, on Sunday, June 1, for pre-tournament preparations in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), ahead of the competition.

Goalkeepers: Richard Ofori (Maritzburg United, South Africa, Lawrence Ati- Zigi (Sochaux, Montbeliard, France), and Felix Annan (Asante Kotoko, Ghana).

Defenders: John Boye (Metz, France), Andy Yiadom (Reading, England, Abdul Baba Rahman (Reims, France), Lumor Agbenyenu (Goztepe A.S, Turkey), Kassim Nuhu, (Hoffeinham, Germany,) Jonathan Mensah (Columbus Crew SC, USA), Joseph Aidoo (Genk, Belguim), Nuhu Musa (St Gallen, Switzerland), Joseph Attamah (Basaksehir, Turkey), and Mohammed Alhassan (Hearts of Oak, Ghana).
