Former Great Olympics striker George Alhassan has delivered a sound verdict on the current state of the club in the wake of their 66th-anniversary observance.

Founded on April 21, 1954, Great Olympics turned 66 on Tuesday; presenting a perfect moment for reliving the good old days and reflecting on the current state of affairs at the club.

Great Olympics are winners of the Ghanaian top-flight twice, in 1970 and 1974 while also winning the FA Cup thrice (1975, 1983, 1995).

Their era of dominance look to be way behind them currently. In fact Olympics have now been relegated from the top flight more than twice since the turn of the millennium.

With flirtations with relegation and off-pitch struggles now characterizing the once-great club, George Alhassan who began his football journey with the ‘Wonder Boys’ has been sharing some of his fondest memories.

Alhassan, who won the league’s top scorer twice while at Great Olympics has shared his observation of how the club’s fortunes have gone south in recent times.

“If you compare our time to currently, its highly evident that Olympics have really fallen”, he told Asempa FM.

“Because in our time, Olympics was basically the third force in Ghana football, but this time around, the dynamics have changed entirely”

“In our time we would beat you hands down on the pitch and not wait to scramble for boardroom points”, he concluded.
