Great Accra hosts U.K. team on Saturday

Accra, Feb 13, GNA - A select Greater Accra amateur boxing team will on Saturday, February 16 host the Huringey Police and Community Boxing Club of the United Kingdom in a challenge contest at the Sacred Heart School at James Town in Accra.

The confrontation will be the first of two sets scheduled between the two clubs during the visit of the British representatives, who will be led by Mr Christopher Hall.

Mr Gideon Quartey, Chairman of the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association, organizers of the contest said all arrangements had been concluded to ensure that tour of the British team was successful. He said the contest would offer the Greater Accra team the needed international experience and sniff complacency out of them as they prepare to vie for recognition and honour.

The Chairman said the arrival of the British team had been confirmed, adding that they would touch down at the Kotoka International Airport in the early hours of Saturday.

According to the programme released for the event, there would be a Press Conference at Chic 'n' Lick 'n' and La Bouquet Restaurant on the Labadi Road at 10:00 hours on Saturday, February 16, to be followed by a welcome reception for the British boxers and their officials. The reception will be co sponsored by Chic 'n' Lick 'n' and La Bouquet Restaurant.

The first contest at the Sacred Heart School will commence at 16:00 Hours (4:00 p.m.) while the second, scheduled for the Prisons Canteen on Wednesday, February 20 will begin at 18:00 Hours (6:00 p. m.) A token of GHC 1.00 (one Ghana Cedi) will be charged at the gates. Mr Quartey entreated boxing fans to troop to the venues to witness good boxing from two distinguished clubs. 13 Feb 08
