Government to launch stimulus package for ‘Youth in Elite Sports’

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah has revealed that the government is in collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency and other sporting associations to launch a stimulus package purposely for youth in sports.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Isaac Asiamah said that government was aware of the hardships the suspension of sporting activities in the country has had hence the need to come to their aid.

The Sports Minister disclosed that plans are underway to launch a stimulus package dedicated only to the youth in sports.

According to him, the Sports Ministry is in a discussion with the YEA to attain funds to support the youth who have been affected by the pandemic.

“As a way to mitigate their plight, a collaboration between Youth Employment Agency, the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Olympic Committee and the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the institution of a stimulus package known as Youth in Elite Sports for Ghana and it will be launched pretty soon,” the Sports Minister.

He added that the purpose of “the program is to provide the needed mitigation stimulus to abate the economic impact on their preparations.”

Following the suspension, sporting federations and associations, as well as sportsmen who were affected by the current pandemic, called on the government to be added to the financial stimulus package fund initiated by the government weeks ago.
