Government must soften its stance against football administrators – GHALCA

The Chairman for the Ghana League Club Association of Ghana (GHALCA), Kudjoe Fianoo, is pleading with the government to soften its stance on football and allow football people to go to congress so they can also begin reforms.

Government, after the exposé on corruption in Ghana football following a documentary by Tiger Eye PI and Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has banned all football-related activities, as well as taken steps to dissolve the Football Association.

The premises of the Ghana Football Association have also been declared as a crime zone, with the offices closed down for the past three weeks now with staff of the FA still at home.

According to Kudjoe Fianoo, government’s efforts to restructure the game are in the right direction; however, he is pleading with them to allow football people to carry on with their activities so they can go to congress.

Congress is the highest decision-making body of the FA, where the reforms can begin at the association.

“We are pleading with government to soften their stance on the current situation. Government is going one step too far and we have to consider the players, as well as the club owners who keep paying these players,” he told the media.

“According to FIFA, you don’t have to create unemployed professionals, but from the way things are going, if it prolongs, we will be creating unemployed professionals.
“Our approach should not be confrontational with government because we rely on the government financially so we have to accord them with that respect”, he added.
“Congress is where we are going to take decisions for the association. If we go to congress, we are going to pass a vote of no confidence on the current Executive Committee.

The former Chief Executive Officer of AshantiGold also revealed that there is division among football people after the wake of the recent exposé on corruption in Ghana football.
Information gathered by The Finder indicates that GHALCA yesterday submitted their response to the FIFA/CAF liaison team as to whether they will continue or abandon this season’s Ghana Premier League.
