Government lauds Kwesi Appiah for setting up foundation

Government has lauded the Head Coach of the Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah for his benevolence towards retired footballers.

According to the Deputy Minister for Sports, Pius Hadzide, the move by Kwesi Appiah on his initiative coincides with the objective of government which seeks to establish a sports fund to improve the living standard of former footballers.

The Minister said this at the launch of the Kwesi Appiah Foundation at the Accra City Hotel Thursday.

The foundation which was established in May seeks to help in the development of retired sports personalities through financial assistance, health aid and skill development.

Speaking to Radiogold905.com on the sidelines of the event, Kwesi Appiah underscored the need to give back to the sport that has brought him far.

He said: “the purpose of the foundation is to support ex-football players and former athletes who have served the nation. I have therefore decided to commit $3000 -$5000 of my salary every month to the foundation. Today’s inauguration of my board of trustees means the foundation begins a journey that will change many lives.”

A five-member team has been unveiled as Trustees for the fund. They include: Samuel Nana Brew-Butler (Chairman), HE Amarki Amartefio (Member), Air Vice Marshall Issifu S. Kadri (Member), Mr. Emmanuel Adu Sarkodie (Member) and Kwesi Appiah (patron).
