Tensions flared at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, March 8, 2026, after angry Gor Mahia supporters attempted to confront head coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor following the club’s shocking elimination from the Mozzart Bet Cup.
The Kenyan Premier League leaders suffered a stunning 1–0 defeat to Nairobi Regional League side BB Bread in the Round of 32. Substitute Dennis Muthini struck in the 84th minute to seal one of the biggest upsets in the 2026 domestic cup competition in Kenya.
Despite dominating possession throughout the match, Gor Mahia failed to break down a disciplined BB Bread side that defended resolutely before capitalising late in the game.

The result marked BB Bread’s second consecutive victory over a top-flight club in the competition after they had earlier knocked out AFC Leopards.
The defeat left sections of Gor Mahia’s supporters furious, especially given the club’s strong form in the Kenyan Premier League.
Gor Mahia currently sit top of the league table with 50 points and are unbeaten in their last 10 matches, winning eight and drawing two.
However, the cup exit sparked frustration among fans who had hoped that the team would compete strongly on multiple fronts this season.
