Gomoa District Assembly to promote soccer

Winneba (C/R), May 28, GNA - The Gomoa District Assembly has made provision for the development of soccer in its 2004 budget, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Miss Joyce Aidoo, has said.

She said the Assembly was determined to raise a formidable football team in the district and urged the youth to participate actively in the sport.

Miss Aidoo made the announcement when she visited the football team of Potsin Ahmadiyya Secondary School (P.AMASS) at a training camp at the National Sports College at Winneba.

The team will be representing the Central Region in this year's Milo competition, which comes off in Kumasi from May 29 to June 6, this year.

P. AMASS defeated Winneba Secondary School 4-2, Apam Secondary School 3-2, Enyan Denkyira Secondary Technical School 3-1, Mozano Community Secondary School, 2-1 and Adisadel College 2-0 to qualify to represent the region.

Miss Aidoo admonished the players to exhibit high sense of discipline and strive to uplift the name of Gomoa by winning the cup. On behalf of the Gomoa District Assembly, the DCE donated six million cedis towards the preparation of the team.

Mr Mohammed Ackonu, Headmaster of the school, expressed gratitude to the Assembly and the DCE for the donation.
