Golden Rackets name team for African Tennis Championship

Accra, Oct. 21, GNA - Three players of the Golden Rackets will represent Ghana at the impending Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) Africa Cup of Nations, slated for Libya from November 7-14, 2010. The trio made up of Raymond Hayford, Robert Kpodo and Jeff Bukari were selected following a justifier organized by the Ghana Tennis Association from October 5-8, which had 10 players participating. Henry Quansah, coach of the Golden Rackets told GNA Sports that three of the players emerged tops in the four-day event that saw the 10 players engaging each other on a round-robin basis.

He said the team will compete in singles and team event of the championship that pieces together the best tennis nations on the continent.

Among the participating countries are the hosts Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon. At stake is a monetary-prize of 2400 US Dollars for the winners of the singles event with the first runner-up, second runner-up and fourth position pocketing 1200 US Dollars, 750 US Dollars and 650 US Dollars respectively.

For the team event, the winning team will go away with 3200 US Dollars, 1600 US Dollars for the runners-up and 800 US Dollars for third place.

Tunisia are the defending champions of the singles event and Morocco won the team's event. 21 Oct. 10
