Gold Stars open talks with Charles Taylor

Division One League side Bibiani Gold Stars have opened talks with former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko star Charles ‘The Terrible’ Taylor over a switch to Bibiani Park.

The 33-year-old midfielder terminated his contract with Berekum Chelsea earlier this season and has since become a free agent. Gold Stars CEO Kofi Adu is optimistic his outfit can lure the onetime most exciting player in Ghana to their camp with a lucrative offer.

“A close source told us that Taylor is currently a free agent so we contacted him and his camp few days ago to sign for Gold Stars,” Adu told Goal.

“They haven’t given us their final word but I’m hopeful he will consider our offer and join us because we can provide him with a great opportunity to make a name once more.

“Taylor has experience and can guide the young players on and off the pitch with his quality. It would also help the team to gain promotion to the Premier League next season,” he said.

Taylor has been out of action for almost of the season after suffering an ankle injury while playing for Berekum Chelsea but has reiterated his desire to return to action following a successful recovery.

He won the Caf Champions League and Super Cup titles as well as three Ghana Premier League titles with Hearts of Oak between 2000 and 2003 before controversially crossing carpet to join arch-rivals Asante Kotoko at the start of the 2003-04 season for then record fee of $42,000.

Gold Stars are currently fourth on the National Zone 2 standings with 23 points, four points adrift of leaders Ebusua Dwarfs after 12 games in a 16-team league.
