Gold Fields congratulates Black Stars

Accra, Feb 14, GNA - Gold Fields Ghana Limited, headline sponsors of the Black Stars has congratulated the playing body, technical and the management team of the group for their magnificent display and spirited performance during the 26th MTN African Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars placed third behind Cameroon and Egypt at the just ended tournament, which pieced the continent's finest together. Toni Aubynn, Head of Corporate Affairs and Social Development of the mining company said in a statement that the Black Stars did the nation proud despite failing to win the ultimate.

"Combined with your splendid display of beautiful soccer, winning five out of a total of six games, and eventually winning bronze for yourselves and the entire nation; one cannot but give you a warm tap on your shoulders."

Dr Aubynn said his outfit believed in continuous improvement and the tournament had no doubt opened some fantastic opportunities for greater achievements.

He said Gold Fields would remain fully committed to the team's course for future competitions such as Angola 2010 African Cup of Nations and the South Africa 2010 World Cup. Goldfields Ghana Limited, operators of the Tarkwa and Damang Mines have been associated with the senior national team since 2005.
