Deputy Youth and Sports Minister,Pius Enam Hadzide, has revealed that government will not fund supporters traveling to Gold Coast(Australia) for the 2018 commonwealth games.

He made this statement following government’s decision not to use state funds to finance trip by supporters as had been the case in previous competitions.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Pius said the sports ministry will aid and facilitate the traveling documents of supporters who would want to go and rally behind the team but his outfit will not be funding their travel.

“We are not arranging to send supporters to Australia. In fact the ministry don’t have money to send supporters to Australia”.

Ghana will present a total of 72 athletes from 12 disciplines to this year’s Commonwealth Games slated for Gold Coast, Australia, from April 4 to 15 this year.

These include coaches and other technical officials from the various disciplines such as weightlifting, para-cycling, hockey, badminton, swimming, boxing, shooting and cycling.
