Godwin Attram implores Gyan to win AFCON for Ghana

Former Ghana international Godwin Attram has urged Asamoah Gyan to win the Africa Nations Cup for the country before calling time on his career.

Ghana last tasted glory in the continent's football fiesta in 1982 when they defeated host nation Libya 7-6 on penalties.

Since then, Ghana has come close to ending the drought but always falter at the final hurdle, having lost to Ivory Coast in 1992 and 2015 and Egypt in 2010.

And speaking to media at the commissioning of the Asamoah Gyan Sports Centre at his Alma-mater Accra Academy on Tuesday, Attram implored the Kayserispor striker to cap his illustrious career with a Nations Cup trophy before end before hanging his boots.

"He is a very good player but needs to focus in order to win the nations cup with the support of the talented Black Stars' players," he stated.

He said, "It might not be Gyan's priority but I believe that it is the only thing Ghanaians are expecting from the captain."

Attram urged him to put all criticisms behind and with hard work and dedication, make Ghanaians happy by winning the AFCON.

Attram scored a spectacular free-kick in the exhibition game played between the Professional Footballer Association of Ghana(PfaG) and Gyan 11 as part of activities to commission the facility.

He also congratulated Gyan for putting up the edifice and urged other old players to give back to society in order to develop sports in the country.
