Goalkeeper collapses and dies during soccer match

Asanteman Council (B/A) July 31,GNA - Fear and shock gripped residents of Asanteman Council, a farming community in the Asunafo District of

Brong Ahafo when a 32-year-old goalkeeper collapsed during a friendly match and died hours later at the Goaso Government Hospital. The deceased, Omono Asamoah alias "Obinim", met his untimely death during a match between Asanteman Town Team and Abidjan Eleven, which ended abruptly because of the incident.

Abidjan was leading by three goals to two at the time if the incident.

Mr George Antwi, Assembly Member for Ampekro told GNA sports at Asanteman council that the deceased was not a member of the team's line up for the match but offered to replace his younger brother who vacated the post following a warning by the father, Opanin Nkrumah.

Opanin Nkrumah had decreed that none of his children should play football because football any more following an incident which lad to the amputation of the right leg of one of his children some years ago. He said while in the posts, Obinim complained of waist pains even though there was no rpt no physical contact with any player and he was given first aid treatment to enable him to continue with the goal keeping.

The Assembly Member said the deceased later collapsed in the posts and remained in coma until his death early the following morning at the Goaso Government Hospital where he was rushed to. The body has been deposited at the hospital's mortuary pending autopsy.
