Glo names first batch of Brazil promo winners

It was fun and excitement as the first set of winners in the Glo Let’s Go To Brazil promo were unveiled to the public at a ceremony in Accra on Wednesday.

At the event Globacom presented five winners with their symbolic boarding passes to confirm their trip to watch Ghana matches live in Brazil next month. The winners, who came with friends and family members, could not contain their joy.

Joshua Opong, a car dealer in Accra, said he thought he was in for a huge joke when his number was called to break the news.

“I did not take them serious, I thought someone was out to make fun of me when you people called me,” he said at the event held at the Glo Shop, Ring Road, Accra.

“Glo you re simply the best,” he said.

On his part, Alhassan Jara, a Malian who came to Accra years ago to study English Language, felt very lucky that out of over 25 million people in the country, his number could pop up. He said: “I am most excited to have been picked from among the over 25 million people in the country”.

Alhassan, who plans to stay in Ghana and trade between the country and his native Mali, was full of praises to Globacom for fulfilling the promise to take subscribers to Brazil, adding that he was already looking forward to the trip to Brazil.

The story of Richmond Dzade, a former student of EP University in Ho, was also exciting. When he was informed that he had won, he was quick to ask if he could exchange the trip for cash. Less than 24 hours after, he was no longer interested in that option. He wished to be in Brazil.

“I asked questions around and read up some bits about the tournament coming up in Brazil. I quickly changed my mind. It is going to be an awesome experience to be in Brazil and I don’t want to miss this rare opportunity, courtesy of Glo,” he said. Another winner, a Nigerian student, Oamen Jerry Owen, felt it was too good to be true. “It feels really too good to be true,” he said, adding that he was eagerly looking forward to the trip to Brazil.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Business, Glo Mobile Ghana, Mr Akeem Kazeem, said that Glo decided to support football across continent because of its “critical social and economic roles in Africa and the entire world, providing entertainment, strengthening bonds of nationhood and empowering youth.”

He added that the company decided to “take our love for the game further here in Ghana by providing a special package for 25 exceptionally lucky subscribers on the Glo network to be in Brazil to watch Ghana play live just for using their Glo lines to make calls, send messages or browse the internet”.

He said this is Globacom’s way of “appreciating our subscribers for their loyalty to the network”.

Existing subscribers and new ones who recharge a minimum of Ghc15 up to the end of May, he reiterated, stand the chance of winning from the remaining slots. “We urge Glo subscribers to keep recharging their lines and encourage those who are not yet on this rewarding network to hurry up and get their Glo lines to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Kazeem.

It will be recalled that Glo Mobile Ghana last March launched this promo to sponsor 25 Ghanaians to Brazil on an all-expense-paid trip along with lots of consolatory prizes for about one thousand more customers. Glo says any winner who could not make the trip for any technical reason, could opt for a cash reward of Ghc5,000.
