Ghanaian tennis players denied visa

Four Ghanaian tennis players who were being funded to undergo a training tour in Spain have been refused visas for no apparent reason.

Businessman Daniel McCauley through his McDan Shipping company has provided funds amounting to $100,000 to the four players who emerged as the most outstanding performers at this year’s McDan Open championships to undergo the training tour in preparation for the Davies Cup.

Ghana is likely to face Spain in their sector of the Davies Cup.

Efforts are thus being made to expose the players to superior training facilities to sharpen their skill ahead of the Davies Cup.

But these efforts are being frustrated by the Spanish Embassy in Ghana.

“The players are of good standing and are only eager to prepare for future national assignments and yet still they were refused visas for no reason,” a source revealed.

“It is sickening that we will have an investment of about $100,000 for the team to prepare and yet still it cannot be used because the team were denied visas.

“The players need exposure and all that to ensure that they are able to upgrade themselves to the international level.”

Ghana tennis have been enjoying relative success in recent times.

The national Men’s Doubles team recently clinched Ghana’s first of two gold medals at the 2015 All Africa Games staged in Congo, Brazzaville.
