Ghana will not be at Rio to holiday - Vanderpuye

Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has assured Ghanaians that the county’s athletes billed for the Rio Olympic Games will make a huge impression at the multi-sports events.

According to Vanderpuye, the track and field representatives numbering eight out of the total of 16 athletes will make a huge impact on the game in August.

The Sports Ministry has vowed to support team Ghana in order to deliver.

“Initially, we thought it would be difficult for the athletes to qualify for the Olympic Games, but today we have eight track and field athletes qualifying, and they are promising, especially the girls’ quartet team, the javelin thrower as well as Emmanuel Dasor.

“I have said we will not be at the Olympic Games for holidays. We will be there to impress. We shall support them, inspire them and motivate them to be able to make the impact in Brazil”, he told Starr Sports.

Rio 2016 Summer Games will start from 5 to 21 August in the Brazilian capital.
