Ghana will need Muntari for AFCON – Ibrahim Tanko

Cameroon’s assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko believes the Black Stars will still need the qualities of suspended Sulley Muntari.

The AC Milan star has been handed an indefinite ban from the Ghana national team after physically abusing a high-ranking Ghana FA official at the 2014 World Cup.

Some believe Muntari has played his last game for the Black Stars and that he is no longer needed in the team due to his persistent disciplinary issues. Tanko, who played alongside Muntari before retiring from football, believes the 29-year-old can still be useful to the side.

“We need Sulley because of his qualities not because of his attitude against the coach or anyone,” he told Africanfootball.com.

“I think we need Sulley. If he is playing for his club and he is playing good, the coach has to decide if he can work with him.

“But for me I think he has the quality we need.

“I cannot force the coach to bring him back if he doesn’t want him.

“It all depends on the coach, if Akwasi [Appiah] thinks he can work with him fine but if not you have to let him go.”
