Ghana to participate in four disciplines at 3rd Africa Youth Games

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has confirmed Ghana’s participation in four sporting disciplines in the upcoming 3rd Africa Youth Games (AYG) scheduled to take place from 17th-27th July, 2018 in Algiers, Algeria.

According to GOC, Athletics, Beach Volley, Hockey 5s and Swimming were selected because they would serve as a qualifier to the Youth Olympic Games to be held later this year.

In a release copied to GNA Sports, the AYG, which is an international multi-sport event held every four years is to complement the current All-Africa Games, with eligibility for athletes between the ages of 14 and 17.

“The AYG is thought to contribute to the development of African sport and to the growth of Olympic values, as well as act as a trial run for the Olympic Games.

The games, created by Lassana Palenfo, current President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) has Mr Albert Frimpong, who is an Executive Board member of the GOC and President of Ghana Skate Soccer Association as the Chef de Mission for the Games and Team Leader for Ghana.
