Ghana’s participation in world swimming championships in limbo

Ghana faces possible sanctions from the international swimming body if it fails to participate in the 2013 World Championship in Barcelona.

Due to financial constraints, the national team rescheduled their departure and will have no option than to pull out if no last minute intervention is made.

The competition will begin on July 25 and requires all competitors to be in Barcelona July 18.

As the situation stands, the team will leave the country early Friday July 19. Chairman of the Ghana Swimming Association, Theophilus Edzi says it will be disappointing if the swimmers, who have sacrificed resources to make it to Barcelona miss out.

"The world body when we had challenges came to our aid so if we don’t go to the championships we could face sanction," he told Joy Sports

He stressed: “Our face is not that good with the IOC in terms of past stories so we don’t have to be doing that we need to replenish our image."
