Ghana players protest over Italian coach's sacking

ACCRA, July 27 (Reuters)(DS) - Several members of Ghana's national soccer squad may boycott future games unless Italian coach Giuseppe Dossena is reinstated, team captain Charles Akunor said on Thursday.

He told an Accra radio station that many players were furious that the Ghanaian authorities had decided not to renew Dossena's contract when it expires on July 31. "I've spoken to a number of players, Sammy Kufuor (of Bayern Munich) and Sam Johnson in Turkey, and they're all saying they won't play," Akunor said, adding that the players felt they should have been consulted.

In their last World Cup qualifier Ghana beat Sierra Leone 5-0. They currently lead their group, wich also includes Nigeria, Liberia and Sudan.

The team have lost just nine matches out of 50 played over the two years since Dossena took over.
