Ghana opt for Togo

Togo have replaced Nigeria as opponents of the Ghana national team in an international friendly match next month.

The Black Stars were scheduled to play Nigeria in the 15 August tie in London but the Super Eagles pulled out saying they could not raise a team for the match.

Togo have now agreed to play the Black Stars at the Brentford stadium on the Fifa approved date for international friendlies.

The Black Stars who reached the second round of the World Cup are using the match in preparation towards their hosting of the 2008 MTN African Nations Cup.

The Togolese will be using the match in preparation towards the start of the 2008 Nations Cup qualifeirs in September.

Meanwhile, Star Meridian organisers of the game, will report the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) to Fifa for pulling out of the friendly.

The match had been arranged by the previous NFA board led by Ibrahim Galadima, which was voted out of office at an extra-ordinary congress in Abuja two weeks ago.

Amos Adamu, a director in Nigeria's sports ministry told BBC Sport that his office was unaware of the game and they would be unable to raise a team for the.

But Star Meridian say this is a clear case of governmental interference in the football and it will ask Fifa to investigate the matter.

"We had already arranged the game with the NFA which was then led by Galadima," said Alex Nortey director of Star Meridian.

"Whether Galadima is in office or not the NFA should honour its commitments but the sports ministry officials pulled the plug on the match because they didn?t have good relationship with the former chairman.

"The statements of Adamu, who should know better because he is on Fifa, is further prove that the ministry have interfered and we will make it clear to Fifa in our report.
