The Black Queens of Ghana avoided defeat in their second group game of the Africa Women’s Championship against powerhouse Nigeria after a 1-1 draw on Wednesday afternoon.
The Super Falcons who got off to a flying start following their 6-0 thrashing of Mali in the opening game came into the match against the Queens as favourites but failed to walk out with Maximum points.
The Nigerians, nine-time champions of the AWC, struck first at the Stade Municipal de Limbe through 22-year-old forward Asisat Oshoala, who took advantage of a defensive error by the Ghanaian defence during a free-kick.
It was the Arsenal Ladies star’s fourth goal in two games, following her hat trick in the Super Falcons’ opening fixture.
Ghana, however, broke even 5 minutes to the break after Captain Elizabeth Addo was fouled in the box.
She made no mistake as she converted perfectly to hand Ghana a draw.
The Black Queens now lie second in the group despite being on four points as Nigeria who lead with goal difference.
Ghana will take on Mali in the final group game with the hope of scoring more to grab the chance of topping the group.
