Accra, Nov. 22, GNA - Ghana will host the 2010 Edition of the Africa Hockey Club Championship at the National Hockey Pitch in Accra, from December 9-18.
The championship will see the continent's best hockey clubs vying for honours, with seven male and six female hockey clubs competing. Information gathered by the GNA Sports from the secretariat of the Ghana Hockey Association, (GHA), confirms the participation of defending champions, Sharkira of Egypt and Telecom of Kenya in the male category of the competition.
Other competing teams are; Trustees of Social Security of National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and Golden Sticks of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), Yobi Stars, Police and Niger Flickers all of Nigeria, with new entrants Strathmore University of Kenya.
In the female category, defending champions Telecom of Kenya, will stand against the likes of Heartland and Yobi Queens of Nigeria, with Reformers of Ghana Prison Service and Extinguishers of Ghana Fire Service completing the list of the teams that will compete for honours. Richard Akpokavie, Vice President of GHA said that the Association was ready to host the rest of the continent and redeem its image in the competition.
He said that the country's excellent hosting of the Hockey Cup for Nations makes her an ideal place for the event. The goal is for a Ghanaian team to attempt to win the top most prize for the first time in the competition, after failed attempts in previous outings.
