Ghana forward Abdul Majeed Waris has been honoured with the Humanitarian Footballer Award at the Northern Excellence Awards.

Waris has been one of the instrumental figures for French Ligue 1 side FC Nantes since joining on loan form FC Porto in the summer.

However, the 27-year-old’s humanitarian work off the pitch has been tremendous since forming the Abdul Majeed Waris Foundation - which values the lives of people living in communities in and around the metropolis of Tamale.

Following the generous work of the organization, the former Spartak Moscow striker received the Humanitarian Footballer Award at the 2019 Northern Excellence Awards (NexA).

Halid Prince Mukadi Gbramoni, the Foundation's director of communications, said on behalf of the player: "God bless the members of the foundation for always working hard to get the foundation on track and to the organizers, thank you very much for recognition and we will do our best to continue to do great work for the good of all.”

Waris has netted six goals in 29 matches in all competitions for FC Nantes in the ongoing season.
