Ghana could play England in historic friendly in March 2011

The Three Lions have never lost to an African side

Talks are ongoing for four-time African champions Ghana to book an international friendly against England in March 2011.

The two nations have never met each other at senior level while many of the Black Stars side ply their trade on English shores

“Yes it true we’re talking with England to play their national team but we haven’t finished the details yet as we look to engage them in March hopefully,” Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi disclosed in a statement.

“It is a real possibility, but let us wait and see how it goes and we’ll inform you if it’s concluded.”

The Three Lions have never lost to an African side in their history, although their last showing against Algeria at the 2010 World Cup saw them flatter to deceive.

A meeting with Ghana would pose a considerable threat to their unbeaten record, as the Black Stars are loaded with world-class talent.

A squad which came agonisingly close to reaching the semi-finals in South Africa over the summer features Premier League stars such as Asamoah Gyan and Michael Essien, as well as household names like Kevin-Prince Boateng, Stephen Appiah and Sulley Muntari.

Ghana will play Congo in Brazaville between 25-27 March in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations Group I qualifier.

The Black Stars gained international recognition after a last eight berth at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

Ghana avoided a round 16 clash with the Three Lions after placing finishing second in their Group which composed of Serbia, Australia and Germany.
