Ghana’s first-ever boxing world champion, D.K. Poison, has been appointed as a Non Executive Director at PKO, marking a significant step in recognizing and reintegrating one of the nation’s most celebrated sporting icons into active leadership within the industry.

The historic appointment comes as part of PKO’s broader vision to honor and support legends who paved the way for Ghana’s global reputation in boxing.

D.K. Poison, who etched his name in history with his world title triumph, now takes on a new role aimed at inspiring the next generation of fighters and contributing to the growth of the sport.

In response to the appointment and continued support, D.K. Poison expressed heartfelt gratitude to PKO for standing by him during a crucial period of his life.

Earlier this year, the Foundation honored him through its Restoring Legends Hope campaign, an initiative dedicated to recognizing and supporting former sports heroes who have contributed immensely to Ghana’s sporting success.

Beyond the recognition, PKO has gone a step further by providing comprehensive care for the boxing legend.

The Foundation is currently taking care of his medical needs and providing a monthly stipend to ensure his well-being and dignity. This support has been widely praised as a model for how sporting institutions can give back to those who once brought pride to the nation.

Speaking on the gesture, D.K. Poison acknowledged the importance of such initiatives, emphasizing that many former athletes often face challenges after retirement.

His appointment and the Foundation’s support signal a renewed commitment by PKO to not only promote boxing but also preserve its legacy by caring for those who built it.
