The Black Stars could see their earnings slashed by more than half if a proposal by the Ministry of Youth and Sports is approved.
According to a report by Allsports.com, the Ministry proposed a flat match appearance fee of $5000 dollars per game for the AFCON in Equatorial Guinea irrespective of the outcome or stage of a tournament the team get to, meaning the most each player could make is $30,000 if the team reaches a final.
Players of the national team of Ghana are among the best paid on the continent, earning $10,000 per match and also earn qualification bonuses.
The new proposal also includes a $60,000 reward if the team wins the tournament.
The ministry and the Ghana Football Association have held extensive discussions over the new pay structure as both parties seek to avoid a repeat of the embarrassing situation that headlined Ghana's participation at the World Cup in Brazil when players revolted over delays in the payment of their appearance fees.
