Ghana Take On Nigeria

THE NATIONAL male hockey side, the Black Sticks will take on a Nigerian club side, Yobe hockey club in an international friendly in Nigeria on November 23.

The friendly, is an invitation from the Governor of Yobe to commission a newly constructed water-based pitch.

Indeed, the game will not only relive memories of the rivalry that exist between the two countries, but offers them the opportunity to put their houses in order for future assignments.

Speaking to the press at the Theodosia Oko pitch in Accra, the Chairman of the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA), Mr. Nikoi Oko-Dzani, disclosed that, "The Governor has agreed to pay our air fare, and we in return have decided to honour the invitation."

"I think it is a good exercise, since it will offer the team's Coach the chance to access his side ahead of the All African Games slated for Algeria next year," the hockey boss added.

Mr. Dzani pointed out that the State is a Sharia area, hence the invitation to only the men's team.

Expected to lead the 18-man Ghanaian contingent is Mr. Richard Akpokavi, Vice Chairman of GHA.

It is likely charges as Edward Oblie, Ebenezer Frimpong, Alfred Armah, skipper Gad Oblitey, goalkeeper Danso Aikins, Joseph Appiah, Isaac Asare and the Moses brothers, Isaac and Charles, will make the trip.

In a related development, Exchequers of Bank of Ghana defeated Club Championship campaigners, Golden Sticks 2-1 in a friendly, while Multistix mauled Citizens 4-0. Veterans put up a splendid performance to beat NDK Financiers 3-2.

In the ladies category, another Club Championship candidates, Extinguishers of Fire Service extinguished Marine Sticks ladies 8-0
