Ghana Polo team finishes fourth in Africa Polo Championship

Ghana’s Polo team, the African Polistas finished fourth at the Inanda African Cup Polo series which ended in Sandton, South Africa on Sunday.

The Polistas threw away a two goal lead in the first chukka of the game and lost 8-5 to South Africa’s Envirobiz in the third place play offs of the championship.

Ghana was hoping to repeat their 2008 gold medal winning performance but that could not materialize. Harold Awuah-Darko, Captain of Team Ghana told JOY Sports his side did not disappoint despite failing to win the tournament.

“In the first game we struggled because we were not familiar with the horses, but in the subsequent games we were much comfortable. Today was just an unlucky one but I think we played well as a team’ Harold said.

Host Inanda Polo Club beat off competition from 9 other Clubs to emerge Champions of the 2011 edition of the prestigious competition.

The host defeated the Green Machines also from South Africa 10-6 in the grand finale.
