Ghana - Liberia in a Chess friendly match

Accra, Feb. 17, GNA - The Ghana Chess Association (GCA) will host their Liberian counterparts in an international friendly match at the Media Center of the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra on Saturday, February 19.

The friendly is a prelude to the Association's aim at organizing its National Open Championship on the same for Ghanaian Chess players.

The friendly, which is in collaboration with the National Sports Council, (NSC) will be categorized into two divisions; international and local opens.

According to a release from the GCA copied to GNA Sports, the tournament is to prepare the team ahead of local and international assignments such as the National Sports Festival, ECOWAS Games and All Africa Games.

It is also to serve as the basis for the ranking of national team players at both professional and amateur divisions.

Christine Ashley, General Secretary of the GCA said registration for the tournament will end at 15 minutes before the start of the championship.

She entreated all Chess players in the country to register with the Association to enable them to participate in the national championship.
