German embassy denies visa rumours

Accra, May 26, GNA 96 The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Accra has denied the recent discussions in the public which suggests that it has received 5000 or more applicants towards the World Cup.

A statement issued from the Embassy in Accra copied to the GNA Sports on Friday said only hundreds of visa applications has so far reached them, describing the figures as misinformation.

The Embassy said there is no difference between visa procedures in Ghana, Togo or Cote d'Ivoire, adding that the Schengen visa regulations are applied to all soccer fans from the three countries.

It added that "The requirements for all soccer fans include the proof that they can afford the travel to Germany and of their stay there (World cup ticket, air ticket, accommodation, health insurance) and as well as a strong indication that they will return to their home countries after the World Cup".

The German Embassy has therefore appealed to Ghanaian World Cup Ticket holders to come and apply now for a Visa since it is left with only 13 days more for the soccer fiesta to start.

It added that Ghana's participation at the World Cup is not only bringing the Black Stars to its first appearance on the international arena but also to promote Ghanaian-German Relations and they would do everything to solidify it. 26 May 06
