George Afriyie missing in action at Congressmen Consultative Forum

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie was conspicuously missing at a stakeholders consultative meeting held to accentuate the draft statutes by the GFA Normalization Committee.

The Liberty Professionals Director was not in action as major stakeholders met to evaluate the draft statutes and to take a decision on the document.

Surprisingly, major members of ‘Team George’ – Afriyie’s campaign team were also missing in action in what epitomizes a complete boycott from the Okyeman Planners owner.

President of New Edubiase United, Abdul Salam Yakubu, a pivot of George’s Campaign Team was missing from the meeting as well as Joojo Duncan, owner of Proud United also a known member of the team.

According to reports, when news of the meeting broke in the early hours of Tuesday, Mr. Afriyie convinced some of his team members, particularly those he could control, not to show up at the meeting, hence the boycott.

Many wondered why the former GFA ExCo member was not present at the meeting when he had been part of a similar meeting held at the NAKOFF Hotel in Takoradi by Owners, Directors and CEOs of Division One League clubs a few days ago.

The NAKOFF Hotel meeting which sought to address the interest of Division One League clubs not captured by the draft statutes of the GFA Normalization Committee shared similar agenda with the Congressmen Consultative Forum held on Tuesday at the Ebenezer Church Hall at Osu in Accra., however, gathers that Afriyie’s absence was not deliberate as it may seem, but he was unable to turn up to the meeting due to personal engagements.

FootballMadeInGhana also understands that George Afriyie failed to indentify the convener of the meeting and the reasons for the its set up, which could also be a reason the CAF Competitions Committee member was absent.

The Congressmen Consultative Forum eventually, after several deliberations settled on setting up an eight member committee to study the draft statutes of the NC, juxtapose it with the existing GFA statutes and ensure its compliance with the standard FIFA statutes.

Members of the 8-Member Committee include Ameenu Shardow, Randy Abbey, Madam Abiba Atta, Robert Duncan, Kofi Manu, Ntow Fianko, Jones Abu Alhassan and Frederick Acheampong.

George Afriyie has already thrown out his intentions of of contesting for the Ghana FA Presidential elections when the time is due.
