Gender tests for women footballers

All female professional players would have to pass a femininity tests to play the game, Caf's Executive Committee has sanctioned.

Issues have been raised on the continent about the gender of certain players in women's competitions in the past.

Following the concerns by the Commission for Feminine Football, Caf has decided to introduce gender verification after approving the Medical Board's scientific process.

"In accordance with FIFA regulations. Femininity tests will be conducted with the collaboration of national associations," Caf said in a statement.

Caf has also confirmed that beginning the 2012-2013 season, all clubs involved in all club competitions will need to posses licenses issued by the continental governing body to participate in the competitions.

According to Caf: "Information relating to the obtaining of the said licenses by clubs will be communicated to each national association in October 2011."
