Gbarakandongo Soccer League is back for the 3rd consecutive time

The Gbarakandongo Soccer League, a peace and unity fostering competition is in procession.

The competition which is in its third year of existence is a local league organized by a group of young committed natives of the Sissala land led by Benin Alhassan and Prince Justice Ali.

The competition seeks to imbibe the culture of accepting all the possible outcomes of a football game by bringing together some communities for the tourney. Keeping teams active in their own football league is one of the major essentialities of the Gbarakandongo Soccer League.

Football in any of its primitive forms is uplifting and these peace-loving natives are looking to build on its very tool of bringing people together through games and instill the values of tolerance of the game and foster unity via the game of football.

This year’s competition looks all new but the same, many teams that participated in the previous edition are unable to participate most because of personal reasons while some register and went down at the eve of the commencement of the competition.

Bandei one of the teams that’s been present since the inception of the competition three years ago, removed itself from the competition some days into the competition. They participated in the premiering tournament and the first edition of the league but were impact-less as they’ve always exited the competition in the initial rounds.

Teams participating in this tournament stand the chance of playing a more organized competition rather than their usual in a month one friendly match which is not very much under regulations as that of the Gbarakandongo League. There are also material gains teams stand to benefit if they reach a certain level of the local football league. Further, there are chances for few outstanding players to go on trials for teams across the globe.

THE BUILD UP TO THE LEAGUE

A one-day coaching clinic was organized to upgrade the skill set of coaches who participated in the previous editions and others who’re now participants in this year’s tourney. Three CAF certified license C holder coaches took the native tacticians through the modern routines a football coach ought to follow before a football game. It was both theoretical and the practical facets of the coaching profession in December last year in anticipation of the ongoing league.

The three dexterous coaches are the two coaches of Wa Suntaa SC and former coach of Wa Maana FC. Suntaa SC coach, Kandumah John who led Team Upper West to their historic first ever second cycle schools inter regional football trophy holds a CAF license C coaching certificate while his assistant Sulemani Rufai Agbonor studied MSc Sports Psychology and will engineer the psychological aspect of the training. The third and final masterful practicing coach is former Wa Maana FC coach Suleman Gbene Rashid who is also a holder of CAF license C coaching certificate.

THE LEAGUE’S PARTICIPANTS

The competition this year has drawn eleven teams across the Sissala vicinity in its bid to integrate the values of tolerance, peace, and unity as well as lift the dormant Sissala football scene to greater heights. This year’s league recorded three new entries while six old participants are unable to make it into this year’s tournament.

Two teams qualify from each group and a decision will be taken later on the road to the finals of the competition. The winner of the competition is rest assured of a trophy and individual standout performers will also be awarded dully and may include some cash depending on the support the competition gets from donors.
