GOC secures scholarships

PRESS RELEASE: GOC SECURES SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GHANAIAN COACHES

The Ghana Olympic Committee has secured scholarships for two Ghanaian sports coaches to train abroad through the Olympic Solidarity.
The two coaches -Ibrahim Issah of the Ghana Swimming Association and Taekwondo coach, Martin Prince Oppan- were selected by the GOC after a rigorous screening exercise to meet the selection criteria for the courses abroad.
Ibrahim Issah left the country on 14th September, 2013 for the International Coaching Course (ICC) in Budapest, Hungary which ends on 6th December, 2013.
The course at the Semmelweis University is designed to train and educate coaches in a systematic way to improve their knowledge and skills in the theoretical, technical and practical aspects of coaching.
Martin Prince Oppan, who is a Takoradi-based level 3 Taekwondo coach, will be taking part in an International Coaching Enrichment Certificate Programme (ICECP) at the University of Delaware in Colorado Springs, USA.
He is expected to leave Ghana for the USA on 27th September and return to Ghana on 2nd November, 2013. He will conclude the course in Lausanne, Switzerland from 24th to 29th April 2014, following a public presentation of his project.
“It’s a great honour to represent Ghana,” Taekwondo coach Martin Prince Oppan said, “ I will go and learn whatever is available and utilize it in Ghana.”
The two coaches needed to meet some basic requirements such as a first degree to qualify for the course. The move forms part of ongoing efforts by the GOC to develop the technical expertise in the various fields of sport in the country.
