GOC Boss calls for support for sportsmen and women

Accra, Feb. 28, GNA - The Chairman of the Ghana Olympic Committee, (GOC) Mr Benson Tongo Baba has called on the National Sports Council (NSC) to help develop a comprehensive scholarship scheme for the nation's sportsmen and women to enable them develop their talents. He also called on the Council to provide the necessary equipment for the various sporting disciplines so that many more talents would be unearthed. Mr Baba who made the call at the end of a GOC-organized seminar for Sports Administrators and the media in Accra on Thursday also stressed on the need for thorough educational programme for sports men and women.

The Chairman noted that with the necessary infrastructure in place and proper organization and collaboration, Ghana would be capable to adequately host the 2015 All African Games. Mr Baba commended government for the efforts it has so far made with the construction of modern stadiums across the country, which he said would go a long way towards sports development. The participants discussed topics such as "Building strategic media partnership to deliver exposure to potential sponsors" and 'Promoting successful sports marketing in Ghana based on Olympic values'.

The participants later visited The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ghana Limited, one of the sponsors of the GOC. Maame Yaa Twimasi, Public Affairs Officer of the company gave the assurance that the company would continue to support the activities of the GOC in its efforts at unearthing talents. 28 Feb. 08
