GHALCA Top Six competition in the offing

A novelty Top 6 competition is on the horizon with telecommunications giants, Globacom believed to be frontrunners to win the headline sponsor tag.

The competition, is an extension of the previous Top 4 competition organised annually by GHALCA to prepare Ghanaian teams for African Club Championships.

However, with the synchronization of the Ghana football calendar with that of Europe’s, the competition is increasingly becoming irrelevant prompting the massive changes.

The competition would include the first four clubs in the just ended Premiership campaign (Berekum Chelsea, Ashantigold, Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC) and FA Cup winners, Nania FC.

Talks are also ongoing to involve last season’s top four winners, Hearts of Oak.

The competition format will consist a group phase inhibiting three teams each playing on a home-and-away basis.

The top two teams will then qualify for the semi finals and susequently the winners go through to contest the finals.

An official announcement from GHALCA to this effect is expected in a few days.
