'GFA is resisting reforms by the Sports Ministry'

Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports believes the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is behind the recent friction with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, due to latter’s effort to implement the report of the Commission of Inquiry into matters relating to the Black Stars participation in Brazil 2014.

The Ghana FA and the Ministry of Youth of Sports, headed by Dr. Mustafa Ahmed in recent times have disagreed on several issues pertaining to football, especially on issues of bonuses to the national football teams.

And Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, who is a sports enthusiast and also serving on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, says the GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi has been avoiding the Sports Ministry, because of Dr. Ahmed’s quest to help reshape the way of doing things at the GFA.

“I don’t want a situation where we will behave in a way that when your opponent is even doing a good job, then you decide to criticize him,” he told Kasapa FM.

“I have spoken to him (Dr. Ahmed), because I always want to get to the understanding of certain things. We all wanted certain things to be done right that was why we called for the formation of the Commission of Inquiry, so why should the minister assume power and do otherwise?

“The Sports Minister wants certain changes, but is not happening because any time he makes the move to bring reforms some people resist. I am hinting you that when he began to bring reforms at the Sports Ministry and he extended it to the GFA, there has been resistance there. That is why now Kwesi Nyantakyi doesn’t want to pick the calls of the Sports Minister”.
