GFA denies appointment of a technical director for Kwasi Appiah

The Ghana Football Association has refuted recent rumors indicating they were planning to bring in a technical director to assist head coach Kwasi Appiah to perk up the technical responsibilities in the Black Stars.

Recent media reports denote that the FA were suggesting on bringing in Serbian trainer Ljubinko Drulovic to assist the 54-year-old who guided the Black Stars to the 2014 FIFA world Cup in Brazil.

Appiah has been under huge criticism after Ghana’s abysmal performance at the World Cup where the Black Stars only managed to pick just one point from three games, failing to get past the group stages of the World Cup for the first time in the country’s history.

Many football fanatics have therefore suggested for the axe of the Ghanaian tactician from the Black Stars coaching job, with some also recommending for a technical director to assist him.

But the Communication director of the FA, Ibrahim Sannie Darra in an interview with Accra-based Asempa fm denied those grapevines saying they have not been in contact with anyone to assist Coach Appiah as a technical director.

“We don’t know any Drulovic. I received several calls from our colleagues in the media fraternity whiles in a meeting yesterday. So one of the journalists sent me a print screen of one website indicating we were going to appoint a Serbian coach,” he said.

“So I told the FA President and the Executive Committee members about it. There is nothing like that. We haven’t spoken to anybody. We haven’t spoken to any Serbian manager. We haven’t done that at all. This is even the first time am hearing this name,” he added.

The FA few months ago denied similar reports of a possible appointment of a technical director after German’s Klaus Topmoller and former Black stars Coach Milovan Rajevac were said to have been approached by the Ghana FA.
