The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has said that coach Otto Addo will determine the fate of André Dede Ayew in the Black Stars.
According to him, the GFA appreciates the contributions of the former Olympique Marseille forward, who captained the national team and set numerous records.
However, the GFA does not have a say in determining his status with the Black Stars, as their role is to make recommendations about players while the technical team takes the final decision.

“At the end of the day, the coach makes the final decision. The FA can only make an input. At this point, these are the players he wants to take to the two friendly matches. It’s good to see André back in action."
"What he has contributed to the nation is enormous. His leadership qualities are absolutely amazing, from the youth teams to the Black Stars. He has played over 100 matches and is currently one of our top scorers in history,” he told TV3 in an interview on March 16, 2026.
Asante Twum stressed that football fans calling for Dede Ayew’s inclusion have the right to do so, but the final decision rests with head coach Otto Addo.
“So the records are many. You can point to different reasons why André must be called. But in the end, the power lies with one person. He calls the shots, he makes the decisions, he settles on the players. And at this point, these are the players Otto wants to work with. Nobody knows what will happen."
"The season is still ongoing until the end of May. We’ve got all of April and the first two weeks of May to close the 2025/2026 season. So I cannot speak too much about the future. I can only talk about today,” he added.
The provisional Black Stars FIFA World Cup squad will be released in May, with the final squad to be summited in June 2026.
Despite the public debate, Dede Ayew was not included in the national team’s squad for the two friendly games against Austria and Germany.
