Frimpong Charges Black Meteors

Ghanaian U-23 international, Joetex Frimpong, has charged his colleagues in Ghana's U-23 National Team, the Black Meteors, to go all out for victory, in this weekend's crucial Athens 2004 Olympic qualifer against their Zambian counterparts.

Speaking in a telephone interview from his Aba base, Frimpong said : "My heart is with the team. I am praying for them to win the Zambians and book the ticket to Athens. We just have to be in Athens, and I am confident that my colleagues can get the result."

Frimpong, who is with his Nigerian teammates in Enyimba preparing for their mid-week league match againt Plateau United, in Aba, next Wednesday, expressed confidence that he would be invited by new Portuguese coach, Mariano Barreto , to battle for a shirt when the team begins preparation for the Olympics.

"I am already dreaming about the Olympics. I just hope that the new manager would invite me to join the squad. I had a nice time with the team because that was my first time in the colours of any Ghanaian side," he said.

Frimpong, who plays club football in Nigeria made his debut for the Meteors in the preliminary tie against Liberia, last July.

He was also drafted to the Black Stars after an impressive outing for the Meteors.

The forward missed last year's All Africa Games due to clun engagement with Enyimba in the African Champions League.
