Four Basic Schools from Brong-Ahafo qualify for Festival

Sunyani (B/A) April 20, GNA - Four Basic Schools from the Brong-Ahafo Region have qualified to represent the Region in the Under-13 91Zone B' Basic Schools Milo Soccer Festival. The schools are Odomase Roman Catholic Primary, Berekum All For Christ Primary, Nsoatre Kings Foundation Primary and Kintampo-Portor Local Authority Primary.

The three-day National Festival is scheduled to commence from May 11 this year in Kumasi the Ashanti regional capital. The qualification of the schools was based on their performance in a one day competitive knock-out soccer fiesta held at the Sunyani Coronation Park in which 13 Basic Schools participated. The Brong Ahafo representatives will join their Ashanti regional counterparts from Zone One in Kumasi to prepare for this year's National Under-13 Milo Sports Festival, whose date and venue are yet to be decided.

In the first group elimination series played, Kings Foundation Primary School kicked out Odomase Pentecost Primary in a 5-4 penalty shoot out, having tied 1-1 at full time.

Kintampo-Babato Local Authority Primary beat Kwapong Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) primary 2-0 in another encounter, Nsoatre Bible Baptist Primary licked Nkrankrom Local Authority Primary 1-0, while Odomase Roman Catholic Primary also defeated Nsoatre Calvary Preparatory 1-0.

Kintampo-Portor L/C beat Kukuom Roman Catholic Primary 3-1 over in a penalty shoot out, Sunyani Liberation Barracks Forces Primary suffered a 3-4 defeat in a penalty shoot out to Chiraa Roman Catholic Primary to complete the first six-pairings of the fixtures of the competition.

The second-stage matches took off with Kintampo-Babato L/A succumbing 0-1 to Kings Foundation, Berekum All for Christ, who enjoyed a drawn-bye privilege in nine matches due to the regulations of the competition, utilized their well-reserved energy and strength to beat Chiraa R.C. 2-0, while Odomase R.C. sent Bible Baptist School packing with a 9-8 penalty shoot out win.

At the third and last elimination stage, All for Christ defeated Kintampo-Porto by a lone goal and Odomase R.C. also beatg Kings Foundation on 4-2 penalty strokes. The match involving All for Christ and Chiraa R.C ended in 9-8 in favour of Odomase who produced the highest goal-scores of the competition.

During the first five shoot outs, each side scored four out of the five kicks with Prosper Asiedu, Ernest Akafa, Eric Ampaabeng, Emmanuel Gyau hitting the net for Odomase R.C. while Frank Awiti missed his kick. For All for Christ, Evans Kyere, Prince Ofosu, Emmanuel Kyeremeh and Gyedu Amponsah were the four who hit the target while Kwaku Perez faulted.

With the scores at even the second set of shoot out started for Obed Bawuah, Emmanuel Saki, Damoah Seffay and Emmanuel Ofori each hitting the net for Odomase but Samuel Owusu failed to find the net as the All for Christ goalkeeper saved the shot. All for Christ's Osei Reagan, Evans Kyere, Emmanuel Gyabaah and Kassim Amankwaah made sure they converted their kicks but Emmanuel Boakye's one was saved by the goalkeeper of Odomase R.C. Mr Isaac Nsiah Edwards, Brong-Ahafo Regional Schools and Colleges Physical Education (PE) Organiser, told GNA Sports in Sunyani that this year's National Basic Schools Milo competition for the U-13 category has been grouped into four zones. He said beside the Brong Ahafo/Ashanti zone, the other zones are Northern/Upper East/Upper West, Greater Accra/Volta and Central/Western Regions.
