African football fans who have been speaking to Ghanaweb after France defeated Croatia to lift the 2018 World Cup say they feel connected to the French team because of the number of players of African decent in the squad.
They described the victory as an African victory, jokingly saying Africa had won its first World Cup.

The fans, majority of whom were Ghanaians said they were filled with joy and excitement after France displayed absolute brilliance and masterclass to win the 2018 World Cup, beating their counterparts Croatia 4-2.

The 2018 World Cup winners boast an array of players of African descent and the goals scored by those players was the best cherry on the cake for African football lovers to rejoice as a victory for Africa at large.

Didier Deschamps' men outclassed their European counterparts after Mario Mandzukic's own goal and efforts from Antoine Griezmann, contributed by two other players of African descent: Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappé bagged an all-important victory at this year's global tournament final.

Sunday's victory in Moscow also meant Les Bleus had defeated the two opponents that thrashed African teams in Russia - Argentina [4-3] and Croatia [4-2].

Some fans who spoke to Ghanaweb TV after the game could not hide their excitement as they were on cloud nine whiles a few others were highly disappointed in the Croatians for such a defeat.
