Florence lifts Unilever Golf trophy

Florence Etwi-Barimah last Saturday continued her winning streak this season by lifting the ladies trophy in this year's Unilever Golf Open at the Achimota Golf Club.

In what she described as playing a "normal game", Florence, carded an impressive score of 34 stableford points to shake off Clara Price, Betty Brown, Mary Hanson and Suzzy Abaloo in a thrilling one day contest.

"I never had it tough, I played my normal game and won," Florence told the Graphic after the competition.

Florence might have played a typical game but her closest rivals, Clara and Betty put up a worthy challenge to close the gap between them and the reigning Ghana Open champion to one stroke.

Clara carded 33 points to pick the second position while Betty placed third on countback loss of 33 points.

Mary Hanson was fourth with a countback loss of 33 while Suzzy Abaloo picked the fifth position after returning 32 points.

In the men's event, Peter Kavege played a consistent game to win with 42 stableford points, edging to the background tough customers like Saddiq Ibrahim and Clement Kwami.

Kavege's 21 on both the front and back nine ensured he finished two points ahead of his closest rival, Saddiq Ibrahim who placed second with 40 points.
