Five-Suspected Criminals Arrested At the Stadium

Five suspected criminals including an armed robber who was said to be on the wanted list of the Ghana Police Service were on Sunday arrested at the Accra Sports Stadium during the Premier League match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Tano Bofoaka.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Leonard Annan a concerned citizen who effected the arrest with the help of police stationed at the Stadium, upon tip off, said four of those arrested were criminals who were already wanted by the Police.

He said of the four, three were involved in snatching mobile phones from members of the public on the high street at night.

Mr Anane said that the fifth one was arrested for stealing a ticket booklet.

They were later taken to the Women and Juvenile Unit of the Police Service at the ministries and locked up, pending investigations.

At the police station, policemen on duty showed the GNA the stolen ticket booklet with serial numbers CA 04701 to CA 04750 meant for the popular stand worth 300,000 cedis.

Policemen at the WAJU station refused to give further information when GNA pressed them.

The station officer, Inspector Paul Akorli said since he had a superior officer at the station he could not comment on the issue.

Unfortunately, the superior was not there for comment.
