Fits Square Gym dominates GAABA League

Accra, June 23, GNA - Fits Square Gym towered above other gyms to emerge tops during the Week 16 of the inaugural Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) League with their teenage boxer trilling the boxing fans with his bravery and craftsmanship at the Prisons Canteen, Cantonments last Friday.

The Accra-based Gym emerged the victors in three of the eight bouts contested with fifteen-year Duke Micah emerging as the revelation of the day. Micah, a pupil of Sempe JSS thrilled the fans with his swift combination of hooks and jabs during the Flyweight (40 kg) contest with gym partner Nii Noi Quaye. Appearing tiny in front of the much bigger Quaye, Micah defied his size and frequently unleashed severe punches on his opponent to the admiration of the fans.

It was therefore not surprising that he won on the cards of all the three judges to emerge winner.

Micah told the GNA Sports that he stepped up his training in the past few weeks and an invitation to the national amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers is being his immediate target. Fit Square duo, Iddrisu Yakubu and Fuseini Assandor accounted for Sampson Dzaku of Akotoku Gym and De-Oak Gym's Odoi Yemefio in the Light Heavyweight and Lightweight divisions respectively. In the Featherweight division, Raymond Commey of Square Deal again failed to secure his first triumph in the sixteen week old championship when he lost to Victor Kuwornu of Bronx Gym, while Joshua Barnor maintained his unbeaten run by beating Robert Katey of Fit Square. Tanko Mandia of Dade Gym defeated Emmanuel Agyiri of Fit Square in the Welterweight division while Emmanuel Mensah of Will Power Gym accounted for Yaya Afra Sackey of Sagacious Gym in the Light Welterweight division.

In the final bout of the night Em manuel Agontana of Sagacious Gym outclassed Mike Annani of De-Oak's Gym also in the Light Welterweight division.
