Fire Services are 2006 Handball Gala Champions

Accra, May 14, GNA - The Male Handball team of the National Fire Service emerged champions of the first ever Areeba sponsored 2006 Handball competition played at the Prisons Handball Court, Cantonments in Accra.

The firemen slashed their opponents from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to size with a 16-8 drubbing in the finals as their opponents proved no match.

Right from the start of the game, the champions assumed total dominance of the game and maintained their winning spree till the end of proceedings.

The Fire Service team received a trophy and cash as their prize for their efforts, whilst GAF took home an undisclosed cash as their prize with Prisons Service also receiving cash as their prize for the third position.

In the female division, Police Service took the ultimate prize of a trophy and cash after beating Prisons Service 10-8 whilst the vanquished side took cash prize for placing second in the competition. The female team of Fire Service took the third place and were presented with a cash prize.

The handball team of Osu Presbyterian Secondary School were presented with a special prize as the most promising side. The competition is to usher in the 2006 season.
